Talk – Stephen Powles – Hedgehogs in need of your help! 7.30pm The Thatched Cottage, Shepton Mallet Members free – Non members £5 Hedgehogs are struggling with their numbers having declined dramatically over the last 30 years. In this this presentation I explain how to make your garden “hedgehog friendly” then go on to show how one village came together to create a hedgehog “superhighway” of interconnected gardens

Saturday 10th May

Garden Visit – Wellfield Barn, Wells 11.30am We will have a talk from the owner and a wander in the gardens. We are welcome to bring picnics and stay and enjoy the garden longer. “Our garden is a haven for wildlife. 28 yrs ago, a once bustling concrete farmyard grew into a tranquil ½ acre garden. Planned, created and still evolving today to provide enjoyment of colour and form for year-round enjoyment. Structured design integrates house, lawn and garden with the landscape. Wonderful views, ha-ha, specimen trees, mixed borders, hydrangea bed, hardy geraniums and roses.”

Garden visit – Caisson Gardens – Caisson House, Combe Hay, Bath BA2 7EF 7.00pm Members £10 Non-members £25 Our two hour visit will include a talk and lots of information from the owners, Amanda and Phil. They will also be on hand to answer your questions. There will be plenty of time to wander followed by drinks and cake (including gluten free). caissongardens.com

Duck Pond Barn

Wednesday 2nd July

Garden Visit – Duck Pond Barn Trowbridge, Wiltshire, BA14 9LW 7pm Members £5 Non-members £10 Garden of 1.6 acres with large duck pond, lawns, ericaceous beds, dry bed, orchard, vegetable garden, big greenhouse, wood and wild areas of grass and trees with many wild flowers. Large dry stone wall topped with flower beds with rose arbour. 3 ponds linked by a rill in flower garden and large pergola in orchard. Set in farmland and mainly flat. Many interesting and rare succulents. Previously a cow field, this garden of nearly 2 acres, belongs to an ancient listed converted Barn. The present owners have added many interesting and unusual features including a large greenhouse, a dry bed, a rill connecting 3 new ponds through the flower garden, large ‘dry stone’ walls changing levels in one area and the development of flower meadows in the orchard and small wood.

Garden visit – Dinah’s Garden – The Retreat Frome 7.00pm Free of charge but refreshments will be provided with donations to Dorothy House. Large garden with mature trees created from the old British Rail allotments between the railway and the river, with pond, grasses and rockeries. Small allotment with wild woodland area inc bees.

Talk – Neil Ross is a local garden designer, garden coach and teacher of RHS courses at Bristol Botanic Gardens.
